The primary runway was scheduled to reopen at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, but the airport had already resumed normal operations earlier.
All diverted flights landed in Cebu on Wednesday except one that was initially bound for Butuan. The pilot chose to return to Manila and cancel the flight, which was rescheduled for the following morning.
In a statement from MCIA on Tuesday night, at least 30 flights were affected when the first runway was closed to allow MCIA teams to conduct inspection and necessary repairs.
“Passenger safety remains our top priority. We are closely coordinating with airlines and our terminal operator, ACAC (Aboitiz Infracapital Cebu Airport Corp.), to minimize disruption,” MCIA said.
