Starting Dec. 15, Sunlight Air became the only direct air link to Siquijor with its non-stop flights from Cebu to the island province known as the “Healing Island.”
With its sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and rich marine biodiversity, tourism in Siquijor is projected to generate P300 million in revenue by 2026.
Tourism demand grows
Access is further enhanced by CEB Connects, MCIA’s premier air-to-air transfer service, which shortens connection times to 60 minutes for international flights and 35 minutes for domestic flights, allowing travelers to reach their island destinations with minimal transfer times, MCIA said in a press release.
Connectivity expands further
Sunlight Air also flies from Cebu to Siargao, another island-destination known for its world-class surfing spots and natural attractions. This will provide direct connections for travelers arriving from Manila or overseas through MCIA.
Aside from Siargao and Siquijor, Cebu also serves as the gateway to San Vicente town Palawan, known for its white sand beach considered the longest in the country at 14.7 km. Cebu Pacific offers the only direct flights to this emerging tourist destination.
MCIA has been under the operation of Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corp. since October 2024.
A broader vision
AIC is building a nationwide network of world-class airports, each playing a distinct role in connectivity and collectively expected to serve about 16 million passengers by year-end—more than 20 percent of the country’s passenger traffic.
It is currently undertaking the development and modernization of Bohol-Panglao International Airport in Bohol and Laguindingan International Airport in Misamis Oriental. —Connie Fernandez-Brojan | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
