Cosco Capital’s 9-month profit grows 10% on retail expansion, liquor sales

Cosco Capital Inc. recorded a 10-percent increase in consolidated net income, reaching P10 billion in the first nine months of 2024, compared to P9.1 billion in 2023.

Consolidated revenues grew by 9.1 percent to P164 billion, up from P150.3 billion last year, driven by strong performance across all segments.

The firm credits this growth to strong consumer demand during economic recovery. Grocery retail, led by Puregold and S&R, contributed 69 percent of net income, with liquor distribution, real estate, energy, and specialty retail accounting for the remainder.

Puregold, S&R

Puregold and S&R’s net sales increased by 9.1 percent to P151.97 billion, driven by the expansion of stores and higher same-store sales.

Puregold saw same-store sales growth of 3.5 percent, while S&R warehouse clubs recorded 4.1 percent. As a result, net income from the grocery retail segment grew by 4.5 percent to P6.9 billion.

Liquor

The Keepers Holdings Inc., which manages the liquor distribution business, reported a 15-percent jump in revenues to P11.7 billion.

This growth was fueled by a surge in brandy sales, leading to a 20 percent increase in net income, reaching P2.17 billion.

Real estate

Commercial real estate revenues climbed 10 percent to P916 million, with net income up 13.3 percent to P761 million.

The energy and minerals segment earned P335 million in revenues and achieved P165 million in net income. Specialty retail experienced a 3.5-percent decline in revenues to P1.6 billion, but net income improved by 3.3 percent to P66 million.
