Converge ICT Solutions Inc. brought its online safety campaign to a Mangyan school in Oriental Mindoro as part of efforts to strengthen digital literacy among young students.

The fiber broadband provider held sessions for Grade 5 and 6 pupils under its Project PIGLET program, which teaches children about data privacy, scams and cyber threats.

Teaching kids online safety

Converge assistant vice president and head of data privacy and information security compliance team Eumir Paolo Espiritu said young internet users are increasingly exposed to deception, fraud and identity theft.

“Converge intends to visit different regions across the country to reach the unserved and underserved and increase the awareness of kids when it comes to data privacy and information security,” he said.

“At Converge, we leave no one behind, so this Safer Internet Month, we visited the indigenous children here in Mindoro to also promote the more responsible and positive use of digital technology,” Espiritu added.

Boosting digital learning

The company also donated tablets and a smart TV to support learning activities at the Stairway Foundation ICT Learning Center in Puerto Galera.

Nearly 250 pupils from different Mangyan tribes study at the Baclayan Mangyan School, where access to digital tools and connectivity remains limited.
