PLDT chair and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan said their group is ready to meet President Marcos’ call to enhance the country’s digital and internet infrastructure.
In the President’s third State of the Nation Address on Monday, he highlighted the large number of households still without internet access, stating, “this is much too low.” The government is investing in a national fiber network, which is partially completed.
“We at PLDT support the President’s vision for a digitally empowered Philippines, where technology uplifts Filipino lives, helps foster meaningful connections, enables livelihoods and businesses of all sizes, transforms government service, and ultimately drives economic progress,” Pangilinan said after the SONA.
PLDT is investing in international submarine cable systems like Jupiter, Asia Direct, and Apricot, which connect to its data centers, reinforcing PLDT’s status as a data center leader.
Smart is expanding 5G access, and when combined with its 4G infrastructure, it covers areas where 97 percent of Filipinos live.
PLDT is working with government agencies and local units to streamline the permit process for building telco infrastructure. They’re also helping cities become ‘smart cities’ with improved technology in government services, like Pasay City’s ‘888-PASAY’ hotline.
ePLDT, PLDT’s tech subsidiary, offers a secure cloud service for government data in the Philippines and works with the Department of Information and Communications Technology to promote apps that make accessing government services easier for everyone.
