Wharton-educated banker completes lineup of PH’s most powerful financial regulatory body

University of Pennsylvania-educated Jose L. Querubin has been sworn in as the newest member of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Monetary Board, completing the seven-person lineup of the country’s most influential financial regulatory body.

In a statement, the BSP said Querubin took his oath on Sept. 5, 2024, at the central bank’s head office in Manila.

He will serve on the Monetary Board until July 2, 2026 to complete the unexpired term of former Monetary Board Member Anita Linda Aquino who resigned at the end of June.

Querubin, a seasoned banker, previously served as president and CEO of United Coconut Planters Bank, senior vice president at Bank of America, and held various leadership roles at other financial institutions.

He holds an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and degrees in Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering from De La Salle University.

Querubin joins Governor and Monetary Board Chair Remolona, Finance Secretary Ralph Recto, Benjamin Diokno, Romeo Bernardo, Rosalia De Leon, and Walter Wassmer.
