The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has initiated a competitive selection process (CSP) for 600 megawatts (MW) of baseload supply to meet its power requirements starting in 2025.

In a statement, the country’s largest electricity retailer said this move follows the Department of Energy’s (DOE) issuance regulatory clearances for the firm’s power supply procurement plan.

The CSP involves a 15-year power supply agreement, set to begin on August 26, 2025.

In line with the DOE’s advisory, Meralco encourages power suppliers with natural gas-fired plants, prioritizing those using indigenous natural gas, to participate in the bidding process.

Meralco's bids and awards committee for PSAs has set the deadline for submission of expressions of interest on June 25, 2024.

The pre-bid conference is scheduled for July 4, with the bid submission deadline on August 2.

This CSP is part of Meralco’s ongoing efforts to ensure reliable, sufficient, and cost-competitive power for its customers, the company said.
