The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has officially resumed its tender for a total of 1,000 megawatts (MW) of power for next year following a key legal victory.

The was after the Taguig Regional Trial Court dismissed a petition seeking to block the competitive selection process, effectively lifting the injunction that had delayed the bidding.

With the legal hurdle cleared, Meralco once more invited generating companies to submit bids for its power supply requirements beginning for 2025.

The utility is seeking competitive offers for two contracts — 600 MW and 400 MW — with the goal of securing reliable and cost-effective electricity for its customers.

Lawrence Fernandez, who chairs Meralco’s bids and awards committee for power supply agreements, emphasized the importance of the process.

He urged prospective bidders to submit their best offers, saying this would enable Meraclo to continue providing reliable and least-cost electricity to our customers.

Meralco has scheduled the bid submission deadline for the 600 MW contract on August 27, while the 400 MW contract will have its pre-bid conference on August 29, with final bids due by October 1.

Both contracts are set to begin delivery in August 2025, allowing adequate time for all participants to prepare.
