West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. mobilized 120 employee-volunteers and media partners for the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) 2025, gathering 631 kilos of plastics, rubber, wood, and other debris from Manila Bay near SM By the Bay in Pasay City and other cleanup sites across Parañaque, Navotas, Manila, Quezon City, and Cavite.

The activity underscored Maynilad’s commitment to community-driven environmental protection and support for cleaner waterways in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

To aid participants across these cleanup sites, Maynilad provided 500 hydration jugs and set up handwashing stations, ensuring volunteers could stay hydrated and maintain proper hygiene throughout the event.

“Joining the ICC reflects our commitment to protect waterways and promote environmental stewardship,” said Atty. Roel S. Espiritu, Maynilad chief sustainability officer.

“Beyond this annual event, Maynilad continues to implement programs that safeguard water sources, reduce waste, and encourage sustainable practices in the communities we serve.”

ICC’s national significance

The International Coastal Cleanup is observed annually in the Philippines under Presidential Proclamation No. 470, which designates every third Saturday of September as ICC Day.

Led locally by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the initiative mobilizes government agencies, private organizations, and community groups to clean waterways while raising public awareness about marine pollution.
