Plans for a second integrated resort (IR) are in the works and will form part of the second phase of the sprawling, golf-themed Hann Reserve complex, targeted for completion in 2030.
“Hopefully, we get another IR over there,” said Agnes “Neki” Liwanag, vice president for Hann Philippines Inc., as she unveiled new updates at the 450-hectare Hann Reserve, located in New Clark City, which is about 15 minutes from the original Hann Casino Resort.
Expansion push through 2030
Other key components of Hann Reserve Phase 2 include new championship golf courses, public parks, retail and golf entertainment, an international school, and golf residences.
Hann’s expansion plans signal confidence despite the slump in land-based casinos, as a slowdown in high-roller players has curbed growth across the industry.
Late last year, the Hann Group put the brakes on a P13 billion initial public offering on the Philippine Stock Exchange, although Liwanag said they’re still open to listing and it would depend on timing the market.
Business healthy despite tourism slowdown
While Hann has benefited from its proximity to Clark International Airport and Korean visitors, the drop in Korean arrivals has weighed on the firm.
Liwanag said the majority of their players today are locals.
She added that subdued tourism has been felt across the business, but said the company continues to expand and that operations remain healthy.
New gaming floor
For example, Hann Casino Resort opened last December a new 1.2-hectare casino floor, adding 584 slot machines and 34 table games.
The integrated resort, which houses a Marriott hotel and the country’s first Swissôtel, now has 1,721 slot machines, 274 table games, and 72 electronic games.
Golf play
The second part of their strategy is boosting their leisure offerings, centered on golf.
Han, an avid golfer who first visited the Philippines in the early 2000s as a tourist, saw Clark’s untapped potential before building his first hotel in Clark in 2008.
Hann Reserve’s first golf course is in its soft opening phase—a Jack Nicklaus Golf Course, country club, and public park.
“We’re introducing the golf so we can explore other markets,” Liwanag explained.
Liwanag said it is currently open to the public, with no immediate plans to sell memberships.
The vision is for Hann Reserve open more championship golf course, including those designed by K.J. Choi and Sir Nick Faldo.
