City Councilor Annabeth Cuizon told InsiderPH that local government officials approved, last Aug. 28, the proposal of AGI subsidiary Travellers International Hotel Group to build a P17-billion gaming hub in the Mactan Newtown project
No objection from city
Travellers International is the developer of Newport World Resorts (formerly Resorts World Manila), which is located across the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay City.
“Last Wednesday, during our regular session, we gave the certificate of no objection to Travellers International,” she said.
She noted this was the last major requirement before Travellers International can secure its casino license from the state-run Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.
Opening by 2027
Cuizon said the Travellers International will be ready to start construction once it finalizes plans and secures the necessary government permits.
“I think they can start immediately," she said.
“They gave us information they can operate after three years,” she added.
Big benefit to Lapu-Lapu City and the community
Cuizon said the new development will boost local tax collections, improve real estate values, and help fund their community projects. It will also create around 5,000 direct and indirect jobs.
“This project is around $300 million [P17 billion], and for us, we are looking at the influx," she said.
“And since they will be integrating hotels in this project, we are looking at Mactan Newtown as the Newport World Resorts of Lapu-Lapu,” she said.
