The dream of owning a sustainable home is becoming more attainable for Filipino families as next-generation prefab builder Hive Modular joins forces with Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) to make eco-friendly modular housing more accessible.

The partnership combines BPI's housing loan products with Hive Modular's prefabricated building technology, allowing qualified buyers to finance premium modular homes through repayment terms of up to 20 years.

Loan packages start at P400,000, lowering the upfront cost that has traditionally made modern modular homes accessible only to cash buyers.

Housing access

The collaboration reflects a broader shift in the Philippine housing market, where affordability and sustainability are increasingly shaping homebuyers' decisions.

As climate risks intensify and construction costs remain elevated, developers and financial institutions are looking for ways to make resilient housing more accessible.

"Our goal has always been to simplify the home-building process without compromising on design, quality, or environmental integrity," Hive Modular founder and CEO John Avrett said in a statement."By partnering with BPI, we are lowering the financial barrier to sustainable housing and allowing forward-thinking Filipinos the structural flexibility to plan long-term investments without putting major life milestones on hold."

Changing market

The Philippine property sector is evolving as buyers seek homes that can be built faster while consuming fewer resources.

Modular construction is gaining attention because major building components are manufactured off-site before being assembled at their final location, reducing construction time and minimizing waste.

Hive Modular said its engineering and sustainable materials streamline what has traditionally been a lengthy and fragmented construction process.

The company's custom-designed modular homes can also be installed in remote areas, expanding housing options beyond urban centers.

The faster construction timeline allows homeowners to avoid many of the delays associated with conventional building while enabling them to move into completed homes sooner.

Financing edge

BPI said the partnership aligns with its goal of expanding homeownership while supporting environmentally responsible communities.

“At BPI, we are committed to empowering more Filipino families by making home ownership fast, convenient and affordable, as we commit to supporting the development of sustainable communities,” said BPI head of retail lending and bancassurance Dex Cuajotor.

“Through our flexible housing loan solutions, we help customers move forward with their home-building plans with ease and stronger financial confidence. At BPI, we believe that by enabling access to quality, greener homes, we can enable a more sustainable future."

For Hive Modular, the collaboration signals a future where technology, financing, and sustainability converge to reshape how homes are built and owned in the Philippines, making climate-resilient living a more practical option for a wider segment of the market. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
