Insider Spotlight

  • RCBC deepens last-mile banking through digital and agency platforms
  • Communications positioned as a driver of adoption and trust
  • Partnerships and sustainability anchor long-term growth strategy

Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. is doubling down on digital and community-based banking as it seeks to expand financial access across underserved markets, reflecting how large lenders are repositioning inclusion as both a growth and engagement strategy.

The approach aligns product delivery, partnerships, and messaging around bringing more Filipinos into the formal financial system.

That strategy recently drew industry recognition at the 61st Anvil Awards held during the “Gabi ng Parangal” at Solaire Resort North in Quezon City, where RCBC was cited for multiple communication-driven initiatives supporting financial inclusion, sustainability, and digital transformation.

The bank earned honors across five categories, reinforcing how its outreach complemented business execution rather than operating as standalone promotion.

Why it matters

As competition intensifies, banks are discovering that access alone does not guarantee usage. Sustained engagement—especially among first-time customers—depends on education, relevance, and trust, turning communications into a strategic lever rather than a support function.

“These recognitions reflect RCBC’s focus on disciplined execution and purposeful customer engagement. We view communications as a strategic tool to build trust and ensure our initiatives deliver measurable value to customers and communities.

They also speak to the consistency of our direction and the strength of our teams,” RCBC president and CEO Reggie Cariaso said.

What stood out

Cited campaigns ranged from agency banking programs that extend ATM and digital services to remote communities, to data-driven digital loan initiatives aimed at reshaping perceptions around borrowing.

Other efforts focused on building online communities to promote responsible financial behavior and advancing sustainable mobility through cross-industry partnerships.

According to a company release, the campaigns were designed to align communications with national development priorities while reinforcing adoption of RCBC’s digital platforms and financing solutions across diverse customer segments.

One initiative highlighted RCBC’s work in expanding digital banking access in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, in partnership with the regional government, helping improve service coverage in last-mile areas.

Another campaign focused on accelerating electric vehicle adoption by making green financing more accessible to consumers.

RCBC executive vice president and chief innovations and inclusion officer Lito Villanueva said the recognitions affirm the role of purposeful communication in advancing inclusive growth.

“On behalf of RCBC, we thank the Anvil Awards and the PRSP for these commendations and recognitions. These recognitions validate our belief that communications can be a force for inclusion, helping bridge gaps in access, understanding, and opportunity,” Villanueva said.

“They reflect the collective effort of our teams working to ensure that innovation translates into real-world impact for Filipinos.”

He added that RCBC remains committed to aligning its communication strategies with sustainable finance, digital adoption, and national development goals. — Princess Daisy C. Ominga | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
