UP-PGH turns New Clark sports clinic into health hub for Tarlac, Pampanga

The University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) is planning to expand its Sports Medicine and Wellness Center in New Clark City into a 200-bed hospital, alongside the development of a dedicated sports medicine facility within its two-hectare site.

This expansion plan comes as the UP-PGH Sports Medicine and Wellness Center recently began offering basic medical and dental services to the public — a major step toward enhancing healthcare access for communities in Tarlac and Pampanga.

Strategically located within the National Government Administrative Center, the center now welcomes walk-in patients for wellness check-ups, pre-employment exams, physical assessments, and general consultations.

The facility is designed to serve not only local residents, but also athletes training in New Clark City’s sports complex, students from the National Academy of Sports, employees of nearby locators, and visitors to the area.

"This initiative underscores our commitment to fostering a thriving and healthy community in New Clark City," Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) President and CEO Joshua M. Bingcang said in a statement.

“By providing accessible basic medical services, UP-PGH significantly contributes to addressing the fundamental needs of our residents, employees, and visitors, ensuring that the well-being of the people is prioritized alongside economic development,” Bingcang added.

The clinic operates in-person consultations every Wednesday and Friday, from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m.,  while telemedicine services are available Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  This flexible service model aims to accommodate the schedules of the growing and diverse New Clark City population.

The facility builds on UP-PGH’s track record in the area. Initially used as a polyclinic during the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, it was later repurposed by the Capas Municipal Government during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Its continued operation is made possible by a 2019 memorandum of agreement between UP and the New Clark Government Center Corp., a joint venture between BCDA and MTD Clark Inc. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
