The health maintenance organization said an estimated 7 million to 12.5 million Filipinos suffer from mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression, underscoring the scale of the country’s mental health crisis.
The program addresses critical challenges faced by Filipinos in accessing medical care and by healthcare workers in their daily commutes. Patients often endure long and complicated journeys for consultations, while medical staff, particularly during off-peak hours, struggle with limited transport options.
The project is located within the PGH complex in Manila and is scheduled for completion in 2027. The integrated facility will house 450 beds, intensive care units, modern pediatric emergency and operating rooms, and outpatient clinics.
The University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) is planning to expand its Sports Medicine and Wellness Center in New Clark City into a 200-bed hospital, alongside the development of a dedicated sports medicine facility within its two-hectare site.
