Finance Secretary Ralph Recto on Thursday welcomed the decision to exempt trucks carrying agricultural goods from toll fee hikes and provide rebates starting June 1, 2024, saying the measure will help curb food inflation and maintain stable food prices.

The three-month program, benefiting 200 to 300 agricultural trucks from north and south Luzon, covers the Manila-Cavite Expressway, North Luzon Expressway, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway, Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway, and South Luzon Expressway.

Under the scheme, accredited truckers with valid RFID accounts will receive toll rebates every Wednesday.

“I thank our government agencies as well as our partner toll expressway concessionaires and operators for their full cooperation,” Recto said in a statement. “This measure will prevent the second round effects of toll rate increases onto food inflation and ensure that we keep food prices stable and affordable for our consumers.”

The Department of Finance, Toll Regulatory Board, Department of Transportation, and Department of Agriculture spearheaded the Agri-Trucks Toll Rebate Program with support from Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. and San Miguel Corporation Tollways.
