Sy’s SM Investments on a roll with corporate governance wins

The Sy family conglomerate SM Investments Corp. reaped awards during the recent Institutional Investor Corporate Awards, notably bagging the trophy for best company in the Philippines with the “strongest adherence to corporate governance”.

This is SM’s 9th win in the category as adjudged by 586 investors and analysts across the Southeast Asian region as well as in the US and Europe.

Now on its 14th year, the Institutional Investor Corporate Awards is organized by the Hong Kong-based magazine Alpha Southeast Asia.

“At SM, we uphold the highest standards of corporate governance in keeping with our commitment to attain shared value for our stakeholders – towards responsible and sustainable development for the communities we serve,” said SM Investments president and CEO Frederic C. DyBuncio. 

Crème-de-la crème of corporate governance

This year, a total of 38 publicly-listed companies from across Southeast Asia have been recognized for their excellence in corporate governance.

These companies represent the best practices in investor relations, disclosure, transparency, financial management, integrated reporting, corporate social responsibility, and dividend policy.

SM Investments was also named among the top five best performing companies in the categories of most organized investor relations, its 13th win.

It also took home the trophy for best strategic corporate social responsibility.

The Alpha Southeast Asia poll surveyed a diverse group of stakeholders with investment interests in the region, including fund managers, large institutional investors, insurance companies, pension funds, hedge fund managers, private banks, and equity and fixed income brokers, as well as buy and sell-side analysts. sell-side analysts.
