SM Prime Holdings Inc. is adding 70,000 square meters of mall space across three key regional markets as the Sy-led property giant bets on growing consumer and business activity outside Metro Manila.

The expansions at SM City Iloilo, SM City Sto. Tomas and SM City Naga are set to come online in the fourth quarter, bringing more retail, dining and entertainment space to Western Visayas, Calabarzon and Bicol.

“The cities of Iloilo, Sto. Tomas and Naga are major economic hubs in their respective regions, with strong potential to attract more businesses and investment,” SM Prime president Jeffrey Lim said in a statement on Wednesday.

Iloilo gets the biggest piece

The largest project is the SM City Iloilo North Block, which will add about 35,000 square meters as part of a mixed-use development featuring new retail spaces, medical and wellness services, specialty stores, parking and a National University campus.

SM City Sto. Tomas in Batangas will add more than 26,000 square meters through a new third level, making room for restaurants, amusement and wellness concepts, retail stores, a Trade Hall and co-working and meeting spaces.

Naga grows, too

SM City Naga will add another 9,000 square meters through a two-storey expansion that includes more parking and a roof deck extension while redeveloping existing tenant areas.

The three projects will also feature solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations and energy- and water-efficient systems as SM Prime expands without leaving its sustainability push behind.
