SHDA leads call for green, people-centered housing reforms

Insider Spotlight

  • Developers, policymakers, and experts unite to build livable, climate-resilient communities
  • SHDA pushes for sustainable housing reforms aligned with the 4PH program
  • Collaboration and ESG integration emerge as keys to inclusive urban growth

The Subdivision and Housing Developers Association (SHDA) is steering the housing industry toward a more sustainable, inclusive future. At the 33rd National Developers Convention, held Oct. 9-10 at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel, SHDA underscored the role of collaboration and technology in creating safe, livable communities for Filipino families.

The event coincided with National Shelter Month and gathered over 400 stakeholders from the public and private sectors.

Why it matters

With housing as a cornerstone of national development, SHDA and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) are aligning efforts under the Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Program (4PH) to deliver affordable and sustainable homes.

“Through the 4PH program, we see unprecedented opportunities for developers to help deliver more homes, more efficiently, and with greater social impact,” SHDA national president Francis Richmond Villegas said in a press release on Nov. 3, 2025.

Driving the conversation

Themed “Recalibrate: Upgrading Housing Strategies for a Better Tomorrow,” the convention spotlighted policy reforms, women’s leadership, and the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into housing projects.

SHDA 2025 National Convention chair Renelyn Tan-Castillejos said, “The role that the real estate sector plays in nation building is vital not only through the construction of homes but more importantly in the creation of safe and livable communities using sustainable technologies.”

What they’re saying

DHSUD Senior Undersecretary Sharon Faith Paquiz reinforced the value of joint action: “Collaboration allows us to continuously enhance our programs and initiatives for the Philippine housing sector.”

SHDA national chair Leonardo Dayao Jr. echoed this sentiment, stressing that “Our focus on people-centered development ensures that housing reform is not only about infrastructure but also about building communities that uplift the quality of life.”

The bottom line

SHDA’s call for synergy and innovation reaffirms that sustainable housing development thrives on partnerships—bridging people, policies, and technology to build communities where every Filipino can live with dignity. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
