Insider Spotlight
What’s happening
Deep fake videos circulating on TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram digitally alter Ang’s likeness and voice to trick viewers into clicking links and transferring money through e-wallets. San Miguel said it has reported the cases to platforms and authorities, and is awaiting their action.
“I do not promote investments through social media or random emails, and I have never made any video inviting people to invest or promising money-back guarantees. These scams put people at risk, and we don’t want anyone to lose their hard-earned money,” Ang said.
Why it matters
The scams highlight rising cyber risks for businesses and individuals as fraudsters increasingly exploit trusted corporate brands and executives.
SMC’s reminder
Ang’s only verified presence is his official Facebook page. He has no personal accounts on TikTok, Instagram, or X.
Fake emails claiming to be from San Miguel are also circulating, including invitations to join a non-existent “vending procurement program.”
The company only deals with accredited suppliers via its Corporate Procurement Group (smc_cpgsupport@sanmiguel.com.ph), which never charges fees for accreditation or bidding.
Job scams, too
Applicants are being misled by fraudulent websites and emails posing as San Miguel subsidiaries, with victims asked to pay for medical exams or fake requirements. San Miguel stressed it does not charge jobseekers any fees.
The bottom line
San Miguel urged the public to stay vigilant, block suspicious accounts, and report scams to authorities.
