PLDT and Smart Communications are intensifying efforts against scammers using fraudulently registered SIMs.
From January to May, Smart blacklisted over 615,788 mobile numbers tied to illicit activities.
This includes purged fraudulently registered SIMs through a strict validation process.
“We actively collaborate with the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center and the [National Telecommunications Commission], our peers in the telecom industry, and other allies from the private and public sectors, to have a comprehensive response to the menace of SMShing and phishing scammers," PLDT and Smart chief information security officer Jojo G. Gendrano said in a statement.
"We remain deeply committed to providing a safe and secure communications platform and digital services for Filipinos,” he added.
Smart has also strengthened its SIM registration controls with enhanced verification mechanisms since December.
