Insider Spotlight
The renovation, completed ahead of the Philippines’ ASEAN Summit hosting and PICC’s 50th anniversary in 2026, preserves Leandro V. Locsin’s Brutalist character while enhancing efficiency, comfort, and event readiness.
Why it matters
The upgrade positions the complex for high-stakes international gatherings as the MICE sector intensifies competition across Asia.
PICC was recently recognized with the Tourism Award for MICE Excellence at the 2025 Philippine Tourism Awards, underscoring its industry leadership.
The big picture
Across the Delegation Building, Secretariat Building, Plenary Hall, Reception Hall, and Courtyard, restorations balance reverence for Locsin’s architecture with the needs of modern clients.
From LED screens and upgraded audio systems to improved circulation and security, each enhancement was designed to elevate guest experience.
Inside the Delegation Building
The restored front lawn now mirrors its 1976 landscape design, preserving Locsin’s floating-volume illusion. Inside, the main lobby’s 3,068 droplights shine with renewed brilliance, its ceiling hand-painted with metallic powder and walls laser-cleaned.
The delegation lounge offers a more private and secure space for VVIP guests, while upper-floor conference rooms and offices feature contemporary layouts inspired by the building’s architectural DNA.
Revitalizing the Secretariat Building
Meeting rooms with signature wooden lattice walls now integrate LED screens and advanced audio systems, supporting hybrid and multi-session events.
The secretariat lounge provides an elegant retreat with refined interiors and warm lighting.
Reimagining hallmark venues
The plenary hall retains its iconic form with refurbished wood panels, enhanced acoustics, and new dimmable lighting.
The reception hall’s polished globule chandeliers and refreshed fabric walls present a timeless venue for banquets and ceremonies.
The Courtyard reborn
Now an open-air gallery, the Courtyard features 20 APEC-donated sculptures, pebble wash flooring, an infinity waterfall, improved ponds, ambient lighting, and a 30-speaker audio system.
A living museum
More than a venue, PICC houses over a hundred artworks from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas collection, including masterpieces by National Artists Jose Joya, Arturo Luz, Carlos “Botong” Francisco, H.R. Ocampo, Ang Kiukok, Napoleon Abueva, and Abdulmari Asia Imao.
What’s next
Now open for bookings, the renewed PICC is poised to host global summits, corporate events, and social gatherings as it approaches its golden year, reaffirming Filipino excellence in architecture, infrastructure, and hospitality. —Ramon C. Nocon | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
