Why it matters

The anniversary event comes as Megaworld continues expanding its property portfolio while strengthening its position in office leasing, hospitality, and township development, underscoring confidence in its long-term growth strategy.

Before the screening, Megaworld president and CEO Lourdes Gutierrez-Alfonso reflected on the company's performance over the past year.

“For our 37th year, our theme is 'We Thrive.' It is a statement that encapsulates our journey. We faced significant difficulties, and yet we did not merely survive—we still saw growth, progress, and expansion. Even during hard times, we thrived,” Gutierrez-Alfonso said in a press statement.

She cited strong residential reservation sales and the company's leadership in office lease transactions nationwide. She also pointed to Megaworld's continued position as the top office landlord in Iloilo City and new office lease agreements with Fortune 500 companies, including Coca-Cola and Reckitt Mead Johnson.

The bigger picture

Megaworld expanded its hospitality footprint with the opening of the 554-room Chancellor Hotel Boracay, its third hotel on the island, and the 405-room Belmont Hotel Iloilo. The addition of Belmont Hotel Iloilo brings Megaworld's share of Iloilo City's hotel room inventory to 25 percent.

The company likewise opened Mactan Expo, its first standalone convention center in The Mactan Newtown. The facility was inaugurated by President Marcos and recently hosted leaders and delegates attending the 48th Asean Summit.

She also pointed to recent recognitions, including Megaworld Lifestyle Malls' fourth consecutive Mall of the Year award at the Retail Asia Awards, the company's inclusion in TIME magazine's Asia-Pacific's Best Companies list, and its Great Place to Work certification.

She ended her message by reminding employees that every person has a role to play in the company's success, saying that no contribution is too small to make a meaningful difference. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
