The iconic tree stands prominently at the Terminal 1 Airport Village, just outside the baggage carousel area of the country’s premier tourism gateway to the Visayas and Mindanao.
It is adorned with ornaments that reflect the essence of the Cebuano culture, highlighted by the use of abaca accents. Below it sits the nativity scene set inside a traditional bahay kubo, symbolizing the Filipino home where families remain united despite adversities.
What they’re saying
“At MCIA, we strive to be more than just a transit point; we are a place where journeys connect and stories begin,” said Athanasios Titonis, CEO of Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corp. (ACAC).
MCIA officially welcomed the Christmas season on Dec. 4, 2025, with the ceremonial lighting of the Christmas tree.
It adopted the theme -- “A Christmas of Light and Hope for Every Home,” to pay tribute to the airport's role in connecting families and the shared resilience found in every household.
Why it matters
“This year’s theme reflects our commitment to bringing warmth, comfort, and positivity to every passenger passing through our gates. We want this tree to serve not just as a decoration, but as a beacon of optimism for the coming year,” Titonis said.
Julius Neri Jr., general manager and CEO of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA), stressed that the lighting of the Christmas tree has been a cherished tradition at MCIA because it brings the entire airport community together.
“It is a steadfast reminder that no matter where our passengers are headed or where they are returning from, the spirit of Cebu goes with them. We are proud to share this symbol of hope with the world, and we wish everyone a safe, seamless, and meaningful holiday season,” he added.
Christmas festivities
As part of the Christmas festivities, travelers passing through MCIA would be treated to festive musical performances, holiday-themed photo spots, and special treats.
Simbang Gabi (Dawn Masses) will also be held at Terminal 1 Airport Chapel from Dec. 15 to Dec. 23, 2025, inviting the airport community to commemorate the essence of Christmas.
