Globe Telecom embraces AI with new group, appoints first AI officer

The Ayala Group’s Globe Telecom is taking an industry-leading step by creating a new group dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI), to be helmed by data privacy and cybersecurity expert Anton Bonifacio as its first chief AI officer (CAIO). 

Led by Globe CEO Ernest Cu, the AI Development and Enablement Group (AIDE) will launch on June 1, 2024, driving initiatives in AI planning, development, business integration, and governance.  

Globe has already implemented AI in customer care, credit scoring, financial reports, and procurement contracts.

“The emergence of AI signals a pivotal shift, promising to revolutionize the way we do business and serve our customers,” Cu said. 

 "We’ve begun to see AI’s impact by way of the different teams across Globe having ongoing initiatives to take advantage of its benefits, but it is imperative that we move forward with unified intent and renewed vigor to navigate these new technological frontiers swiftly,” Cu said in a statement.

Meet the CAIO 

Bonifacio, also the company’s chief information security officer, is behind some of the telco giant’s innovations in data protection and cybersecurity. 

“The creation of AIDE signifies a strategic investment in our technological capabilities and a concerted effort to integrate AI seamlessly into our operations,” Bonifacio said. 

“We are committed to fostering a culture of innovation and responsible AI use, ensuring that our advancements not only drive business growth, improve service delivery, and enhance customer experience, but also adhere to the highest standards of governance and compliance,” he added.
