The event, organized in partnership with Clark Development Corp.’s Pagsasarili Program, was timed to coincide with the Mother’s Day season.
According to Converge community relations manager Jennifer Ambanta-Realubit, the training focused on helping mothers understand online threats, particularly text and internet scams that have become more frequent and deceptive.
CDC officials added that financially vulnerable families are often targeted by fraudsters offering fake jobs, loans, or investment schemes.
Scam Watch Pilipinas also joined the event, with co-lead convenor Jocel de Guzman walking the group through various scam tactics and urging caution when dealing with unfamiliar online contacts.
Participants were also introduced to Surf2Sawa, Converge’s prepaid fiber product, as a potential source of side income. Converge provided guidance on how it could be sold within their communities to help supplement household earnings.
The training is part of Converge’s ongoing collaboration with CDC to promote digital literacy, scam awareness, and livelihood support in underserved areas.
