Cebu Pacific, the Philippines’ largest carrier, has unveiled its latest initiative to boost domestic tourism while celebrating the country’s rich cultural heritage.

Dubbed the QR Flight Codes, this campaign features QR codes designed to resemble traditional weaving patterns from various Filipino communities, the airline said in a statement on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025.

In collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute, Cebu Pacific integrates Filipino artistry into its tourism promotion efforts.

The initiative highlights five distinct weaving styles: Ilocos Norte’s Binakol, Occidental Mindoro’s Ramit, Iloilo’s Hablon, Antique’s Patadyong, and Zamboanga’s Yakan.

Placed on billboards, airports, and magazines, these QR Flight Codes provide travelers with insights into the weaving traditions and the destinations they represent. Scanning the codes directs users to information about the weaves and attractions in those regions, encouraging exploration of lesser-known cultural landmarks.

“This initiative honors the rich tapestry of our nation’s cultural heritage. We aim to use our platform for inclusive and sustainable growth, celebrating local weaving communities while preserving their timeless traditions,” said Candice Iyog, Cebu Pacific’s chief marketing and customer experience officer.

The project also involved collaboration with weaving communities across the Philippines, ensuring authenticity and sustainability. Key partners include the Paoay weavers of Ilocos Norte, the Hanunuo Mangyan of Occidental Mindoro, the Baraclayan Weavers Association of Iloilo, the Patnongon Multipurpose Cooperative in Antique, and Zamboanga’s Yakan by Oriental Weaves.

Cebu Pacific's marketing chief says the campaign highlights the 'timeless traditions' of Filipino weavers.

“Every weave is a community’s cultural fingerprint, telling a unique story. We encourage everyone to explore the Philippines and appreciate our culture by engaging with the QR Flight Codes,” added Iyog.

To further entice travelers, Cebu Pacific has launched a seat sale running until Jan. 15, 2025. One-way base fares to all domestic destinations start at P199, exclusive of fees and surcharges. The travel period for this promotion is from Jan. 4 to June 30, 2025, offering affordable opportunities to discover the featured regions.

Cebu Pacific operates in 35 domestic and 27 international destinations across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. This campaign is part of the airline’s broader effort to promote sustainable tourism and bring attention to the craftsmanship of local Filipino communities.
