As consumers increasingly gravitate toward larger screens and premium viewing experiences, television makers are stepping up investments in display technologies that promise better picture quality rather than incremental branding updates.

TCL is betting that its latest display platform will strengthen its position in the fast-growing premium TV segment as competition intensifies.

Why it matters

The company introduced its Super-QD MiniLED technology, describing it as an evolution of its Mini LED platform designed to improve brightness, color accuracy, and contrast while supporting slimmer television designs.

The backdrop

TCL cited Omdia data showing it ranked No. 1 globally in shipment market share for 75-inch-and-above TV sets in 2025, No. 1 in global Mini LED TV shipments in 2025, and No. 1 in Google TV shipments from 2021 to 2025, underscoring its strategy to capitalize on demand for premium home entertainment products.

“TCL's mission has always been to make advanced technology accessible while continuing to push the boundaries of what display products can do. Whether in the home, or wearable devices, we see our display products as the interface between people and the digital world.” TCL Industries chief technology officer Daniel Sun said in a press statement.

By the numbers

TCL said Super-QLED, one of the core components of the new platform, delivers a 33 percent wider color gamut, 17 percent higher color purity, and 45 percent blue light energy optimization compared with previous technologies.

The company also highlighted improvements in backlight precision and an upgraded color filter aimed at reducing color impurities.

TCL also pointed to its flagship X11L television, which it described as the first TV built on the Super-QD MiniLED platform. The model received the Innovative Display Technology Gold Award at the GTB Awards during CES 2026, according to the company.

The bottom line

Rather than presenting Super-QD MiniLED as a simple rebranding exercise, TCL is positioning the technology as part of its broader effort to capture growing consumer demand for higher-performance televisions through improvements in display precision, color reproduction, and overall viewing quality. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S.
