Launched at Grass Residences in Quezon City, the program provides senior citizens with free, tailored learning sessions covering cybersecurity, fintech tools like GCash, and telehealth platforms such as KonsultaMD.
According to the National Bureau of Investigation, digital fraud cost senior citizens P155 million in 2023, highlighting the importance of this initiative.
Jessica Bianca "Jica" T. Sy, vice president and head of design, innovation, and strategy at SM Prime and SMDC, emphasized the program's goal to empower seniors and create an immediate positive impact within their communities. "We plan to reach out to neighboring communities by hosting similar events for them," she added.
Residents like 76-year-old Connie Cailles welcomed the program, noting its supportive and patient environment compared to learning from busy relatives.
The success of the initiative was underscored by Elbert Mozo, treasurer of the Grass Residences board of trustees, who highlighted the high turnout and engagement among senior participants.
Beyond #SeniorDigizen, SM has long supported senior citizens through its CSR arm, SM Cares. Initiatives like the Emergency Preparedness Forum and Walk for Life parade underscore its commitment to uplifting this community.--Ed: CSN
