Investments in subsea cable systems, data centers and cross-border networks are accelerating across Asia as technology companies expand infrastructure to support artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing and rising data consumption.

The growing demand for digital infrastructure is prompting hyperscalers, cloud providers and digital platforms to increase network capacity and strengthen connectivity across markets, creating opportunities for telecommunications companies providing international bandwidth and related services.

PLDT Global, the international arm of telecommunications giant PLDT, is expanding its cross-border connectivity capabilities to support enterprises, technology companies and international carriers operating across multiple markets.

In a statement, the company said growing demand for network diversity, capacity and reliability is driving investments in international connectivity as businesses handle larger volumes of data and increasingly distributed workloads.

Expanding regional networks

PLDT Global is leveraging PLDT's participation in the Asia Direct Cable (ADC) system to strengthen connections between the Philippines and major digital hubs across Asia.

The subsea cable system provides additional bandwidth and alternative data routes, helping improve network resilience and support increasing demand for cloud services, content delivery and emerging AI applications.

Across Southeast Asia, investments by hyperscalers, data center operators and network providers are also generating demand for interconnection services, colocation facilities and reliable international network capacity.

Growing revenues

Amid these developments, PLDT Global recorded a 30-percent year-on-year increase in revenue during the first half of 2026, driven by demand from hyperscalers, international carriers and digital platforms for international bandwidth, cable capacity and related infrastructure services.

The growth coincided with continued expansion in PLDT Enterprise, which generated P24.8 billion in revenue during the same period.

Of this amount, Corporate Data and information and communications technology (ICT) services contributed P18.4 billion, reflecting business investments in cloud computing, cybersecurity, managed services and digital transformation.

PLDT Global's international connectivity services complement the group's investments in data centers, cloud infrastructure and enterprise technology solutions.

Meeting digital demand

"The continued expansion of cloud services, AI applications, and digital platforms is increasing the need for reliable international connectivity," said PLDT Global president and CEO Albert V. Villa-Real.

"We remain focused on investing in infrastructure and strengthening partnerships that help address these requirements while supporting our customers' digital transformation initiatives across markets."

As data traffic increases across borders, international connectivity infrastructure is becoming increasingly important to businesses that rely on cloud platforms and digital services.
