Maynilad Water Services Inc. has completed a P200-million pipeline replacement project in Las Piñas City, improving water pressure for approximately 50,000 customers and recovering 3.73 million liters of water daily.

The project involved replacing 23.11 kilometers of aging, leaking and undersized pipelines, ranging from 75 to 300 millimeters in diameter, to reduce water losses and improve distribution efficiency.

Completed in 2025, the upgrades increased water pressure in affected communities from approximately four pounds per square inch (psi) to 16 psi, according to Maynilad.

At the improved pressure level, water can reach the third floor of a building without a booster pump, depending on its elevation and internal plumbing conditions.

Communities covered

The project benefits customers in five barangays: Manuyo Dos, Talon Singko, Talon Uno, Talon Tres and Pulang Lupa Dos.

Maynilad said replacing deteriorating pipelines would help improve water delivery while reducing losses caused by leaks and inadequate pipe capacity.

The recovered 3.73 million liters per day represents water that can now be retained within the distribution system for customer use.

“By replacing aging, leaky, and undersized pipelines, we are strengthening our distribution network to better accommodate growing demand while ensuring the continued delivery of safe, reliable, and sustainable water services,” said Maynilad president and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.

“These investments are essential to improving system efficiency and reducing water losses across our service area.”

Reducing water losses

The Las Piñas project forms part of Maynilad's Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Management Program, which seeks to minimize water losses across its distribution network.

The program includes establishing district metered areas, conducting advanced network diagnostics, detecting and repairing leaks, replacing deteriorating pipelines and improving water meter management.

Non-revenue water generally refers to treated water that does not generate revenue because of physical leaks, unauthorized consumption or metering inaccuracies.

Maynilad serves the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area under a concession agreement with the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System.

Its service coverage includes portions of Metro Manila and several cities and municipalities in Cavite province.

The company continues to invest in pipeline rehabilitation and network improvements to address distribution inefficiencies and support growing water demand. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
