New NAIA management: Parking fee hike to ease congestion at airport, prioritize passenger access

New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) said on Tuesday that the parking fee hike for vehicles at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is meant to optimize facilities for passengers, reduce congestion, and discourage non-travelers, including from nearby businesses, from misusing parking spaces for long-term stays,

This is the first parking fee adjustment in over a decade and is part of the Manila International Airport Authority’s (MIAA) Administrative Order 1, series of 2024, approved through Cabinet Resolution No. 1, series of 2024, the company said in a statement.

NNIC said this abuse of long-term parking services at the airport's various parking areas has been contributing to shortages and adding to vehicular congestion in the area.

Short-term rates have increased to P50 for the first two hours, up from P40, aligning with commercial parking fees. Overnight and extended-stay rates have seen significant hikes: a 24-hour stay now costs P1,200 for cars, P480 for motorcycles, and P2,400 for buses, up from the previous flat rate of P300 for all vehicles.

The goal of the policy is to ensuring parking availability for passengers and those sending them off or picking them up, the firm explained.

NNIC said the new policy will ease traffic flow around the airport by reducing vehicles searching for parking spaces. Furthermore, some fixed-rate monthly parking contracts will not be renewed to free up more spaces for passengers.

NNIC emphasized that the changes are not designed for profit but to enhance parking access for passengers.

“The goal is to optimize parking for our passengers,” it said. “These changes will create a more efficient and passenger-friendly airport experience.”

NNIC also revealed plans to increase parking capacity at NAIA, starting with Terminal 3, which serves 65,000 to 68,000 passengers daily.
