Bacolod is about to host a high-profile Singapore international school, with Megaworld moving fast to bring it to life.

Singapore School Bacolod will rise inside the 53-hectare Northill Gateway along the Bacolod–Silay Airport Access Road, making it the first Singapore international school anywhere in Negros Island.

Betting on world-class education

The school will cover all levels of basic education—from preschool to high school—using the Singapore curriculum, then Cambridge IGCSE and the International Baccalaureate for senior students.

Mayor Greg Gasataya said better schools and a lower cost of living could convince some families from Manila and nearby provinces to move to Bacolod, while also supporting the city’s plans to grow education and sports tourism together.

It joins other famed schools such as the De La Salle University, National University, Colegio San Agustin, and technical schools such as Don Bosco.

Megaworld designed the campus using recycled bricks from former sugar centrals, a sunroof to maximize daylight, and a visible red dot on the roof as a reference to Singapore.

Lourdes Gutierrez-Alfonso, Megaworld president and CEO, led the groundbreaking alongside Gasataya.

Sports hub inside the upper east

Megaworld is also building The Yard, a 3,290-square-meter outdoor multi-sports venue inside The Upper East township that can be configured for basketball, volleyball, pickleball, training, or community events. The facility will have sheltered bleachers and four curved glasshouse pods housing cafés and retail.

Gasataya said the venue could help Bacolod host more tournaments and draw visitors beyond traditional leisure travel.

The open layout is meant to make the space usable year-round for school leagues, club games, and regional meets rather than just one-off events.
