Compassion in action
More than just a workplace policy, the program reflects BPI’s commitment to caring for its people—acknowledging the emotional, physical, and financial challenges cancer brings. The initiative ensures employees and their families feel supported at every stage of the journey.
The new policy grants 15 days of non-cash, non-cumulative paid leave to employees diagnosed with cancer. The leave can be taken consecutively or on a staggered basis within the year.
“At BPI, we stand with our employees during life’s most challenging moments. We want to offer them the time, care, and understanding they need to focus on their healing and recovery,” said Gina Eala, BPI chief human resources officer.
“We want every employee to feel valued and supported, knowing that they are never alone in this journey. The well-being of our people is always a priority,” Eala added.
Simple and accessible support
The benefit is available once an employee has exhausted their sick leave credits and provides a medical certificate from a licensed oncologist. The leave entitlement resets every year and requires only the supervisor’s approval and HR endorsement.
This program adds to BPI’s broader healthcare support, which includes medical insurance, dread disease coverage, and access to MindYou, a digital mental health platform for emotional well-being.
A global pledge
The initiative also reinforces BPI’s participation in the Working with Cancer Pledge, a worldwide movement that promotes inclusive workplaces for cancer patients and challenges the stigma surrounding the disease.
In the Philippines, it is supported by Publicis Groupe PH, AC Health with Healthway Cancer Care Hospital, and the People Management Association of the Philippines. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
