In a press briefing, the Marikina City-based firm said it seeks to innovate the local firearms industry by collaborating with experts in science, technology, and seasoned military and law enforcement personnel.
This collaboration ensures the design of firearms that meet the specific needs of Filipino users, who face challenges such as unsuitable foreign equipment, environmental factors, and budget limitations.
AGDI vice president for business development and RIA Defense brand manager Daniel Tuason emphasized that the products currently available in the market do not fully address the Filipino military and law enforcement's unique needs.
He cited foreign products as often unsuited for local conditions, forcing end-users to adapt to their equipment.
Among RIA Defense's first offerings are the RD4P Cobra, a short-stroke gas piston rifle designed to perform underwater, and the RD1, a multi-caliber pistol platform capable of firing armor-piercing rounds.
These weapons aim to enhance the flexibility and capability of local forces, particularly in high-threat scenarios.
AGDI, a long-time supporter of the Philippines' Self-Reliant Defense Posture program, aims to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers. It played a crucial role during the 2017 Marawi siege, supplying firearms and ammunition to government forces when stocks were nearly exhausted.
AGDI's Marikina facility produces over 650 million rounds of ammunition and 350,000 firearms annually, exporting to over 60 countries. With RIA Defense, the company aims to boost the Philippines' defense capabilities while contributing to economic growth through local manufacturing and job creation.
"RIA Defense demonstrates that Filipino companies can produce world-class defense products while supporting national security and economic development," Tuason said.
