TECNO targets wet-screen usability with touch recognition upgrade

Smartphone makers have spent years improving resistance to water, but keeping a touchscreen usable when water, sweat or oil interferes with touch input presents a separate challenge. TECNO is addressing that everyday friction with technology designed to keep its latest device responsive under conditions where conventional touchscreen operation can become less reliable.

The company introduced Wet & Oily Hand Touch Recognition 2.0 as part of the new CAMON Slim 5G, positioning the feature for situations ranging from rainy commutes and workouts to cooking in the kitchen. 

The technology is intended to let users continue operating the display despite moisture or oil on their hands. 

Waterproof case touch 

Water resistance can protect a smartphone's internal components without necessarily making a wet display easy to use. TECNO's approach puts usability alongside physical protection, addressing what happens while a device is exposed to water rather than focusing solely on whether it survives that exposure.

The system includes Rain Touch, which is designed to maintain effective touchscreen control even during heavy rain. Waterproof Case Touch, meanwhile, allows users to operate the device through a waterproof case in wet environments. 

Durability package 

Those touchscreen capabilities sit within a broader durability package. The CAMON Slim 5G carries IP69K, IP69, IP68 and IP66 protection ratings for water and dust resistance. The device has also passed MIL-STD-810 certification for shock and drop resistance, according to the product material.

The phone pairs that protection with a 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED display supporting a 144Hz refresh rate and TÜV Rheinland low-blue-light certification. It measures 6.39mm thick while housing a 6,000mAh battery. 

Surviving harsh conditions 

Wet-touch recognition shifts part of the durability conversation from specifications about surviving harsh conditions toward whether a phone remains practical while those conditions are happening.
