In a statement on Friday, Oct. 4, the Sy family-controlled firm said these events, held in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Public Employment Service Offices (PESO), connected job seekers with various industries, including IT, business process outsourcing, retail, hospitality, and government services.
In recent years, SM job fairs have become platforms for addressing unemployment, particularly among new graduates. With many fresh graduates entering the workforce during this period, these job fairs offered a crucial bridge between employers and job seekers.
The Philippine Statistics Authority had noted a rise in unemployment in July 2024, attributed to the influx of graduates still searching for their first job.
Success stories like that of Kristina Eugenio, a new graduate from Bulacan State University, highlight the impact of these job fairs. After months of unsuccessful applications, Kristina secured a role as an accounting assistant with SM Retail through one of the fairs.
John Flores, a graduate from the University of Caloocan, also found his first job as an accounting assistant after struggling with a long and challenging job search.
Held in comfortable and accessible SM malls, these job fairs provide a welcoming environment for applicants and recruiters alike. The venues offer air-conditioned spaces, ensuring a more efficient hiring process, particularly in a country known for its challenging weather conditions.
The initiative will continue into October, with job fairs scheduled in cities like Davao, Caloocan, Trece Martires, and Puerto Princesa, providing more opportunities for Filipinos to find employment and build a brighter future.
