In a statement, the government pension fund said the project aligns with President Marcos’ directive aimed at developing a world-class transport hub to enhance the city’s mobility infrastructure.
On Oct. 15, 2024, key officials from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), GSIS, Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Quezon City government convened to solidify their roles in advancing the project.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, GSIS president and general manager Wick Veloso, MMDA Chair Romando Artes, and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte participated in the meeting, emphasizing their commitment to bringing the project to life.
Tentatively named "Project Hub," the new facility aims to streamline public transportation by augmenting existing systems in the area.
Upon completion — targeted for 2027 — it will provide seamless connections to the neighboring Philcoa Station of MRT-7, which will link North EDSA to San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.
The GSIS will allocate its property on the corner of Elliptical Road and Commonwealth Avenue for the development.
The DOTr, supported by the World Bank, will oversee the planning, financing, and execution of the project. Meanwhile, the MMDA will conduct a feasibility study covering traffic management and engineering design. As the host city, Quezon City will facilitate permits and requirements for smooth implementation.
"Our property in Quezon City is centrally located and accessible, positioned in a location that maximizes connectivity with the city and surrounding regions," said Veloso. "The end view of Project Hub is a well-organized, modern facility that streamlines the bus travel experience, focusing on efficiency, passenger comfort, and seamless connectivity with other transport modes, including MRT-7.”
Veloso added that the GSIS will ensure the project benefits its members and pensioners, stating, "As long as their needs are met, we affirm our commitment to advancing this sustainable initiative."
In the interim, the GSIS, MMDA, and Quezon City government plan to open 300 temporary parking slots on the site to serve the public while construction preparations are underway.
