Insider Spotlight
Launching bookings on Nov. 12, 2025 and opening flights by Dec. 1, the program will initially operate on routes between Manila and top island destinations such as Boracay, Bohol, and Siargao.
“As the first mover in pet air travel in the Philippines, we recognize the unbreakable bond between people and their beloved pets,” Alvin Miranda, PAL vice president for marketing, said in a press release on Nov. 12, 2025.
“With FurPAL, we are making it more convenient for them to take a vacation with their pets and create unforgettable memories together,” he added.
Why it matters
The FurPAL program underscores PAL’s focus on both pet welfare and passenger safety. Each flight will allow up to three small dogs, each weighing up to 10 kilograms and at least eight weeks old, ensuring manageable conditions for cabin safety.
PAL also enforces strict guidelines for carriers: they must be soft-sided, leak-proof, and well-ventilated, with maximum dimensions of 17” x 11” x 9.5”. Pets must remain inside their carriers throughout the flight, stowed under the seat in front of their owner.
Between the lines
To promote responsible travel, PAL requires all fur parents to present a veterinary certificate, vaccination card, PAL waiver, and a Bureau of Animal Industry shipping permit. Sedation is strictly prohibited to protect animal health and ensure awareness during the flight.
Beyond pet safety, passenger well-being remains a top priority. PAL emphasized that its aircraft are fitted with hospital-grade HEPA filters, capable of removing 99.99 percent of airborne particles, and cabin surfaces are sanitized with eco-friendly cleaning agents before each flight.
The bottom line
By balancing compassion with compliance, PAL’s FurPAL program not only deepens customer connection but also sets a benchmark for pet-inclusive, safety-first travel in Philippine aviation. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
