Nestlé, SFGC forge deal to strengthen Mindanao’s Robusta coffee production

Nestlé Philippines and the SF Group of Companies (SFGC), a diversified agribusiness firm in Mindanao, have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to formalize a strategic alliance aimed at accelerating sustainable and profitable coffee farming in Northern Cotabato.

At the heart of the partnership is Sunfood Marketing Inc., a subsidiary of SFGC, which will spearhead the expansion of Robusta coffee cultivation in Northern Cotabato. As a key player in SFGC’s agritech ecosystem, Sunfood will deploy advanced agricultural technologies and sustainable farming practices to boost productivity and enhance farm efficiency.

This marks the first partnership of its kind for Nestlé Philippines under the Nescafé Plan, a flagship initiative designed to uplift smallholder coffee farmers by offering training in modern farming techniques, sustainable agriculture, and basic business skills.

The program also promotes regenerative agriculture, aimed at improving soil health and climate resilience while boosting yields and long-term profitability.

Nestlé Philippines will provide technical assistance and capacity-building programs to support farmer development under this new collaboration. The partnership aligns with Nestlé’s roadmap toward achieving zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 through responsible sourcing.

By combining Nestlé’s international expertise in coffee cultivation with SFGC’s localized innovation, the initiative aims to build a strong Robusta coffee network in Mindanao. It also supports the Corporate Growership Program of Sunfood Marketing Inc., further expanding Robusta production to meet growing domestic demand. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
