A total of 15 power generation companies, offering a combined capacity of 725 megawatts (MW), have expressed interest in Meralco’s CSP for a 200-MW baseload power supply to meet its RPS requirements.
The CSP forms part of Meralco’s long-term procurement strategy to secure reliable and sustainable power for its customers while meeting regulatory mandates.

What’s next
Interested firms have been advised to participate in the pre-bid conference on Jan. 15, 2026. For those planning to submit formal offers, the bid submission deadline is Feb. 16, 2026.
The resulting Power Supply Agreement will cover Meralco’s 200-MW baseload supply requirement beginning Jan. 26, 2026, subject to approval by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
What they’re saying
“The strong interest we received reflects confidence in Meralco’s procurement process. We look forward to receiving competitive and compliant bids that will support our efforts to deliver reliable, sustainable, and least-cost electricity to our customers,” said Lawrence S. Fernandez, chair of Meralco’s bids and awards committee for Power Supply Agreements (BAC-PSA).
“As a highly regulated entity, Meralco remains fully committed to upholding the highest standards of transparency, fairness, and regulatory compliance throughout the CSP,” he added.
How it fits
The CSP is being conducted in accordance with Meralco’s Department of Energy-approved Power Supply Procurement Plan, reinforcing the utility’s adherence to government rules governing power supply contracting.
RPS compliance requires distribution utilities to source a portion of their electricity from renewable energy, making long-term baseload supply contracts critical to ensuring stability while increasing clean energy share.
The bottom line
With total offered capacity far exceeding the required 200 MW, Meralco’s CSP is shaping up to be a competitive process that could help secure renewable baseload power at least cost—while advancing the country’s clean energy targets. | Ed: Corrie S.. Narisma
