15 power firms vie for Meralco’s 200-MW renewable energy contract

Fifteen power generation companies have joined the Competitive Selection Process (CSP) for Manila Electric Co.’s (Meralco) 200-megawatt (MW) renewable energy (RE) baseload supply requirement.

The CSP aims to secure long-term renewable baseload power for Meralco customers as the utility complies with the Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) starting early 2026.

Who’s bidding

The companies participated in the pre-bid conference held on Jan. 15, 2026, after earlier submitting expressions of interest.

These include ACEN Corp., AP Renewable Energy Corp., Bac-Man Geothermal Inc., Energy Development Corp., First Gen Hydro Power Corp., GNPower Kauswagan Ltd. Co., GNPower Mariveles Energy Center Ltd. Co., Green Core Geothermal Inc., Mariveles Power Generation Corp., Negros Island Solar Power Inc., SanMar Solar Inc., Sinocalan Solar Power Corp., Sual Power Inc., Therma Luzon Inc., and Therma Visayas Inc.

What they’re saying

“The strong interest from the participating power generation companies affirms the effectiveness of the CSP as a mechanism for securing sufficient and least-cost supply for our customers,” Meralco bids and awards committee chair Lawrence S. Fernandez said.

Bid submissions are scheduled for Feb. 16.
