This recognition highlights Maynilad’s innovative strategies to combat climate change, including reducing water losses, expanding wastewater services, boosting water production, and implementing sustainability programs aligned with its “climate neutral by 2037” goal.
The award positions Maynilad as a leader among utilities adopting low-carbon and climate-resilient practices in the water sector, the company said in a statement.
“Being recognized by IWA affirms our commitment to tackling climate change challenges while ensuring water security for future generations,” said Maynilad chief sustainability officer Atty. Roel S. Espiritu.
The 28 utilities recognized, including Maynilad, were chosen from 92 applicants across 19 countries following a rigorous evaluation conducted by an independent panel of experts.
IWA is a global network of water professionals who collaborate to promote the development and implementation of innovative and effective approaches to water management.
Its Climate Smart Recognition Program highlights utilities that are “leading the way towards a low carbon water and sanitation sector, embracing the shift needed to adapt to and mitigate climate change”.
