Standby supply for disruptions
The Valenzuela Modular Treatment Plant is designed to produce New Water from treated effluent and can be activated during supply interruptions or maintenance of primary sources. Once operational, the facility can supply up to 1 million liters per day (MLD) to select areas in Barangay Marulas.
Advanced treatment ensures safety
Maynilad said new water undergoes multiple advanced processes such as ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, and disinfection.
These ensure the water meets Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water, making it safe for consumption.
Building on global recognition
The company first introduced potable water reuse through its Parañaque NEW WATER Treatment Plant—the first of its kind in the Philippines.
The project earned international recognition, winning “Water Reuse Project of the Year” at the Global Water Awards.
Pipeline expansion underway
Maynilad is also preparing to commission a new water facility in Pasay by 2026, with a capacity of 12 MLD, further boosting supply in its service areas.
“As water demand continues to grow and climate variability affects traditional sources, developing alternative solutions like new water is increasingly important,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.
The program is part of Maynilad’s broader strategy to improve water security and promote sustainable resource management. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
