The expansion was marked by a launch event held on Feb. 20, 2025, at the Arcadia Event Center in Davao City, bringing together Mindanao-based press, sellers, and content creators.
The event also served as a platform for local businesses to learn best practices for optimizing their presence on Lazada ahead of its highly anticipated 13th Birthday Sale in March 2025.
Among the distinguished attendees was Dr. Roland Suico, president of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce & Industry, who welcomed guests and underscored the economic potential of the region.
A recent TransUnion Consumer Pulse study revealed that 84 percent of Filipinos in Mindanao feel optimistic about improving their financial situations, making it a prime market for digital commerce growth.
Commitment to growth and digitalization
“We are committed to delivering the best prices and best experiences to buyers, sellers, and brands, and we are proud of our expanding presence and ecosystem across the country,” Carlos Barrera, CEO of Lazada Philippines, said in a statement.
“Our vision is to empower Filipino-owned businesses, and as eCommerce continues to grow, we remain focused on making it accessible, helping even more Filipinos embrace convenient, digitalized lives.”
To cater to the growing eCommerce market in Mindanao, Lazada launched its "Barato sa Lazada" campaign, offering:
Fast delivery in as little as four days
Up to P120 off on shipping for a minimum spend of P199
Mindanao-exclusive deals and vouchers
Easy, free returns for added convenience
Additionally, Lazada unveiled special seller packages to support local entrepreneurs, including:
0% platform commission fee for 90 days
0% Promo Pass for the first 30 days
A dedicated store consultant
100% sponsored solutions credit
8,000 complimentary seller coins
Lazada’s seller roadshows across Mindanao will conclude with a final event in General Santos City on Feb. 27.
Meanwhile, the company has also established a new Davao office at the 6th floor of Regus-Felcris Centrale Mall, where local sellers can receive onboarding assistance, attend workshops, and join campaigns.
Enhanced shopping with AI
To enhance the shopping experience, Lazada is leveraging its AI-powered features, including AI Lazzie, Southeast Asia’s first eCommerce chatbot. AI Lazzie assists customers with:
Personalized product recommendations
Review summaries
Image-based searches
Skin analysis and virtual try-ons
Additionally, Lazada has improved its return and refund policy, offering 30-day free returns—twice the industry standard—along with an easy refund process covering more categories for “change of mind” returns.
With these initiatives, Lazada is set to empower more Mindanaoan entrepreneurs while delivering a seamless, digital-first shopping experience for consumers across the region. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
