Insider Spotlight
In the Philippines’ IT-BPM sector, new research suggests the answer is less about technology itself and more about human connection.
The big picture
A 2025 State of HR report found employees are more likely to stay because of workplace relationships and a sense of belonging than access to advanced tools.
Retention is increasingly driven by three factors: connection, contribution, and community, even as AI becomes embedded in daily operations.
Why it matters
Companies that treat AI purely as a productivity lever risk weakening workforce stability. The shift is not just technological but cultural, requiring organizations to rethink how employees experience change.
Case in point
TELUS Digital Philippines is positioning AI adoption alongside employee support systems. The company reported a 15-percent year-on-year reduction in attrition, while maintaining a 91-percent engagement rate across two years.
More than 1,200 employees were also recognized for long service in 2025.
“AI is transforming our industry, but technology alone does not build sustainable companies,” Anne Muñoz, country vice president of TELUS Digital Philippines, said in a press statement.
“When AI adoption is paired with meaningful engagement, structured upskilling, and clear career pathways, it strengthens performance and supports long-term careers. Our goal is to ensure innovation creates lasting benefits for our teams and the customers they serve, not short-term disruption,” she added,
Between the lines
Large organizations face added pressure to scale innovation without eroding culture. TELUS addresses this through structured engagement programs, internal communication platforms, and initiatives designed to foster collaboration across teams.
What’s new
AI is being deployed as an augmentation tool rather than a replacement. Employees are shifting toward higher-value tasks, supported by AI-driven coaching, assistants, and training systems.
The company logged thousands of enrollments in AI-focused learning programs, with strong completion rates.
The bottom line
AI may optimize workflows, but trust and retention are still built on human foundations. Companies that pair innovation with strong culture are emerging as more resilient in the transition. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
