Group training taps community to build strength beyond running

Insider Spotlight

  • Kinetix Strength Studio is positioning group-based strength training as a complement to running and other endurance-focused activities
  • Just Show Up Run Club became the first group to participate in a Kinetix Strength Studio group session
  • The session comes ahead of Kinetix Strength Studio’s September 2026 opening at The Podium in Mandaluyong City

Strength training operators are tapping community-based fitness groups to encourage athletes to move beyond their primary sport, with Kinetix Strength Studio using collective training as a way to introduce runners to strength, conditioning and endurance work.

Kinetix brought its pop-up experience to Inertia Longevity Club at M1 Tower in Salcedo Village, Makati, on Aug. 3 for a session with the Just Show Up Run Club, also known as Rockwell Run Club, led by Ashley Cayuca.

The activity comes before Kinetix Strength Studio begins operations at Level 4 of The Podium in Ortigas CBD, Mandaluyong City, in September.

The group took on a challenging Hyrox-inspired session combining strength, conditioning, endurance, and teamwork—bringing runners into a different kind of training environment and putting their strength to the test. | Contributed photo

The setup

The runners completed a Hyrox-inspired workout combining strength, conditioning, endurance and teamwork, giving participants an opportunity to train outside their usual running environment.

The session was also Kinetix’s first group workout involving an outside community, making Just Show Up Run Club the first organization to experience the studio’s group-session format.

What they’re saying

“There’s a different kind of energy when you train together. You push harder, feed off each other’s energy, and surprise yourself with what you can do. Strength isn’t just about getting stronger on your own—it’s about showing up, pushing each other, and getting stronger together,” Strength in Movement Group group training supervisor Coach Antish Gaspar said in a press statement.

The bigger picture

The session reflects Kinetix’s emphasis on treating strength training as a collective activity rather than solely an individual pursuit. The workout used shared stations, intervals and repetitions to create a setting in which participants could draw motivation from others while testing their strength alongside their existing endurance capabilities.

What’s next

Ahead of its September opening, Kinetix is also operating a pop-up at UP Town Center along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City, where customers can experience its classes. —Vanessa Hidalgo| Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
