Remulla clarified recent public statements on plans to combat road congestion in Metro Manila by imposing a toll on EDSA to discourage the use of private cars.
“All of these are plans,” Remulla said in a message to InsiderPH, noting that expansion projects for the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit projects are still underway.
He said they were also eager to see the completion of the subway, which could be finished by 2028 or later.
“We still have to see the effectiveness after the LRT/MRT/subways are completed,” Remulla said.
His views are backed by the successful implementation of road congestion fees overseas.
Manhattan, New York, recently introduced congestion fees, while Singapore has used it for decades to keep traffic at bay.
Those areas also have efficient mass transit systems, including buses and railways, ensuring commuters have reliable alternatives. The same must happen in Manila first.
