Insider Spotlight

  • Canva is widening access to AI-powered coding by embedding it into its visual design platform
  • The company is targeting nontechnical users as demand grows for interactive digital experiences
  • New features let users edit AI-generated code visually, import HTML, and collaborate in one workspace

Canva is expanding beyond graphic design as it seeks to lower the technical barriers to building websites, apps, and other interactive digital experiences, reflecting a broader push to make artificial intelligence (AI)-powered creation accessible to more users instead of just software developers.

Why it matters

The company has introduced Canva Code 2.0 in the Philippines, enabling users to generate and customize interactive content using plain-language prompts within Canva's existing editor rather than relying on standalone coding tools.

The big picture

AI-assisted coding, or "vibe coding," has rapidly evolved from a developer-focused capability into a tool for educators, entrepreneurs, marketers, and creators.

Canva is positioning its latest offering around visual editing, allowing users to modify AI-generated experiences by changing fonts, colors, layouts, and images through the same drag-and-drop interface used for graphic design.

The platform also supports HTML imports from other AI tools, reducing the need to rebuild projects from scratch.

By the numbers

Canva said Canva Code now generates code 75 percent faster, reducing average generation time to 45 seconds, while the median time needed to publish a website has fallen 30 percent. Active users have increased 25 percent since the latest update.

Globally, Canva AI products have been used more than 32 billion times, while Canva Code has powered more than six million published websites over the past year.

What they're saying

The rollout also reflects Canva's broader strategy of expanding from visual communications into interactive content creation.

The platform is designed to support collaborative workflows, responsive designs, secure sharing, and integrations with other Canva tools from within a single workspace.

Bottom line

For Philippine users, the expansion underscores growing competition among AI platforms seeking to simplify software creation by combining coding capabilities with familiar design tools, potentially widening access to interactive digital development for businesses, schools, and individual creators. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S.
