Alphaland Corporation's Balesin Pines is bringing one of the country’s most celebrated culinary figures to the mountains of Baguio for an exclusive gastronomic event that highlights Philippine ingredients through a global lens.

The luxury mountain retreat announced that Chef Chele González will headline its Tastemakers Dinner on March 7, 2026, offering guests a curated five-course dining experience paired with wines at La Réserve.

Why it matters

The collaboration underscores the growing global recognition of Philippine cuisine following the launch of the inaugural Michelin Guide in the country. González — the chef behind Gallery by Chele and several other acclaimed dining concepts — received five distinctions in the guide, cementing his influence on the local fine dining scene.

For Balesin Pines, the event positions the property as a destination for elevated culinary experiences beyond its luxury accommodations and leisure offerings.

The details

Born in Spain, González originally arrived in the Philippines for what was meant to be a temporary stay. Over time, he built deep ties with local farmers and producers while developing a cooking philosophy rooted in Philippine terroir.

His flagship restaurant, Gallery by Chele, is known for showcasing seasonal ingredients sourced from across the archipelago, often grown in close collaboration with agricultural partners.

At the upcoming dinner, guests will experience the chef’s signature approach — blending European technique with Filipino ingredients — through a carefully composed tasting menu designed specifically for the event.

What they’re saying

“Our philosophy continues to be redefining luxury through local and endemic produce,” he said in a post on Balesin Pines’ Facebook page.

The big picture

González has helped shape the Philippines’ modern fine dining movement, operating a portfolio of restaurants including Gallery by Chele, Asador Alfonso, Cantabria, and the concept Ñ.

Beyond the kitchen, the chef is also known for his work as a DJ, having spun electronic music since the 1990s. His latest project, Medium Rare, merges his passions for food and music — reflecting the same balance of creativity and discipline that defines his culinary style.

What’s next

The March 7 event is part of a curated weekend at Balesin Pines that also includes a guided visit to the BenCab Museum, highlighting art, culture, and wellness experiences for members and guests.

With limited seating available, the Tastemakers Dinner aims to offer an intimate showcase of Michelin-recognized cuisine in one of the country’s most exclusive mountain destinations.
